Can you picture a baby juicing? Well, that was me! But, not literally juicing though. I was blessed with a mother who grew up in the environment of farming until her teens and moved with her family to the city in her young adult years. This natural form of living was passed on to us in every shape and form. It means we used our food to eat, to clean, care for our health and of course enhance our natural beauty. Hence, my fascination for all-things-natural.
One of the natural beauty recommendations right in your kitchen, farmer's market or grocery that can be used as natural blush and even lip tint are beets! Yep! This natural wonder is used in yummy Egyptian cuisine, juices, health issues such as lowering blood pressure, hair coloring, juicing and/or used as a natural fabric dye.
How do you use beets as a natural blush and lip tint? Well, I personally start with using half of a beet for a juice mix and the other half for my beauty needs. Like they said beauty starts within; drink up! You might want to first do a test on applying to your skin. Reason? Let's just say you don't want to look like someone 'naturally' slapped you. Also, you don't want to test it out before an important event. The beet will let out some juice naturally when you cut it, so be sure you do it on a plate(don't try this on a cutting boards, it will stain it). If you are not using any part of it for juicing, then start cutting at one edge and work your way to the other side. Tap on the sliced beet and apply to cheeks in a upward circular motion using your fingers. Remember that this won't work if you have foundation on; you will only be making a terrible mess on your face. If the beet is a bit dry, you can also use it it against your skin instead of using your fingers; aim for the apples of your cheeks. The same technique applies to the lips.
Keep the unused part in a food container or wrapped in plastic in the refrigerator. You might notice on the next time you use the unused beet a bit of dryness, just slice the surface and continue to use. The reason I use half for juicing is that food can go bad after some time. I recommend start using a quarter size and depending on how often you tend to use the beet increase your usage size.
Now, how long does is stay on? I have found my to stay on for a good amount of the day even through making wudu(cleansing process for prayer). So, there you have it! A natural way to get blush and a lip tint.
