Ok, here it goes! It's been about two years since I kicked healthier-living up a notch and started this whole chemical and preservative-free journey--very high moments and low moments from time-to-time. The struggle is very real and it still continues.
One of those movements was getting rid of my shampoos that contained all these added ingredients such as Sulfate, Parabeans, Alcohol among some. After going through a serious raid of products not good for my body and home, I had to make my own shampoo--thought it would be easy. Indeed, it was, but what happened in the following weeks was horrendous! I literally had nasty oily hair! I did have the understanding that it takes a period for your hair to detox from chemicals, but for me, it didn't stop. I went into a couple of months with this awful mess and tried different online recipes--but none were lucky to create a good PH balance with my hair. That's when I threw in the towel and gave the experts a chance. My other problem was finding a real pure product or at least as close as possible, which lead me to spending hours searching online. After all I went through, I was definitely not going to go back to my old shampoos.
This is when I finally came across Yarok and the best part of course aside their pure ingredients aspect was their location--here in New York! I didn't waste a minute and headed over to their Salon and bought myself some good food for my head threads! For the first time in my journey of clean living for my hair, it felt very well balanced, clean and manageable. So, what's up with this shampoo and what makes it an excellent choice? Yarok is an organic, sustainable and consciously sourced brand. They make their own shampoo in-house in what they call their 'Beauty Kitchen' using natural botanicals and other high quality ingredients. The water they use to make their shampoo goes through a 'premier water purification enhancement system'--you can read about it here. They also do other wonderful environmental safe-keeping things like contribute to the preservation of the Amazon Rainforest and not test on animals nor use animal products. Indeed, a wonderful company with a substantial all around philosophy!
If you are in New York, Yarok has a private hair salon and they offer private hairstyling and haircuts in a healthier and non-toxic salon environment. For more information and places where they stock their products, visit www.yarokhair.com
Note | If you are switching over from sulfates shampoos to natural products, do expect a small transition period.
