It’s use dates all the way back to ancient Greece and and has since gained popularity amongst Chilean farmers. It’s touted as one of the best products for anti-aging products on the market and it’s one of the most talked about trends in self-care history. I’m talking about snail serum. That’s right, the slimy trail of mucus these little gastropods leave behind has been lauded for everything from brightening skin to reversing signs of aging to providing protection from environmental aggressors. But is snail serum really an all-in-one miracle product or is it just a lot of hype? I decided to put the product to the test.
SMD Cosmetics is a Korean beauty brand that formulates natural non-toxic cruelty-free products based on 2,000 years of herbal medicine wisdom. I got ahold of their best selling product, Saromae Quintessential Snail Serum Concentrate and have been applying it daily ever since. They state to use 62% of pure snail secretion with added herbs licorice root, forsythia virdissima fruit, and paeonia lactiflora root for antioxidants and help reduce pigmentation. I was hesitant to say the least, but found myself impressed with it’s elegant packaging and pleasant lemony scent. After application, my skin felt slightly sticky to the touch but it wasn’t long before it settled in and left my skin feeling smooth and deeply hydrated. It’s hard to say whether it really does reduce fine lines and acne scarring, only time will tell with that one, but I can say that it definitely gave me that healthy glow that’s hard to achieve with dry skin like mine.
In a nutshell, maybe there is proof to ancient herbal science. So if you’re looking to switch up your self-care routine, I’d say give this product a go. Sometimes stepping outside your comfort zone really does pay off.
