As you probably know, maybe you don't, maybe you do! This past weekend I attended the first Beauty, Hair and Wellness Expo for Latina Magazine, founded in 1996 for the American Latina women--still recall their launched and first cover--Jennifer Lopez! Of course I would know that because am Latina! The excitement was very real--finally a magazine that identified with me. Oh, memories! The expo was quite exciting to attend, see, feel and connect with other women whom I felt identified with--not to mentioned the amount of product options catered just for me. That was awesome! Anyways, I attended one of their beauty demos where Verky Arcos, Fashion Director for the magazine, walked us through beauty and hair looks that are exciting popular at the moment not only for Latinas, but all women. Here's the thing about Latinas, you can't cater only to what the media mostly focuses on--the sexy, olive skin with black gorgeous hand-manageable hair. Why? Latina women are mixed with cultures around the world, so you will see from the 'white girl' to Afro mix look probably making them one of the most diverse group of women in the world--including body shapes. I don't want to get much into the history of it, but let's put it this way, it has to do with Spain, France and Africa mixing with the natives back in the hey day in what is now Puerto Rico, Cuba, Dominican Republic, South America, Central America and Mexico.
Moving on, here's a company to keep in your speed dial or app on your phone: GLAMSQUAD! a beauty provider that comes to your home, office, event, ect.! Sort of gives me an idea of a grown women beauty sleepover--yes, because you know blow-dried hair looks better the next morning and so does black eyeliner(just kidding, do wash your makeup before bed). The three beauty trends demonstrated, loved and feel all skin tones can use plus one other we're also loving this Summer and that can very well go into Fall or anytime of the year for that matter are:
STROBING - A technique still making its way--but basically, get ready to light up! It's a simple technique that just requires to highlight the areas in the face where light would normally hit--that's all! This exciting glow has been seen on our favorite celebrities to Marni and Prabal Gurung on the Spring/Summer 2015 runway, although more like a sweaty look, per VOGUE. We will stick to the glow! What we love about this technique is that it really requires no crazy contour work, not that you can't mix some with it, but the point is to provide a more natural looking look! It encourages some care for our face skin--something that is very underrated because we're so used to covering up! I'm a firm believer to allow the skin to breath as much as possible. Or you can just do a full coverage like seen in tutorial below. Oh, that glow! Just love it!
COLOR EYELINER Right when we thought black liner was bold. A color one is a thinker for some of us! Probably not so office appropriate, but definitely for a night-out with the girlfriends. Also seen on the Summer/Spring 2015 runway at Dior, but in form of appliques. The one demonstrated to us at the expo was a dash of color on top of black. Of course, it can also just be done all by itself. The variations are plenty. Also, forget the rule of nude lips with bold eyes, be not afraid to use a bold lip color--just make sure it compliments the color eyeliner. Challenge yourself! Check-out the chameleon color eye-liner below!
CORAL LIPS This pop of lip color has been on-going for ages--think the 1950's! I think it's a fun color somehow with a neutrality. Add some gloss for a night look and keep it matte for the day. Don't know about you, but all this blending and multi-color application sounds like too much work, so the lipstick used in the below tutorial is one step easy application. Love!
70's LOOK This look was not part of the expo, but a personal favorite! The 70's has been a major player this Spring/Summer and it is not ready to die just yet! Fall collections are greatly inspired, so don't Depop those Spring and Summer 70's inspired dresses just yet because there are ways to dress them up in Fall. The makeup look below is very much on point with the 70's in a modern smoky natural twist.
